Agreement On Asean Preferential Trading Arrangements

Japan and Singapore signed an Economic Partnership Agreement in February 2002. Last year, Singapore signed a bilateral trade agreement with New Zealand. Japanese policymakers proposed a comprehensive economic partnership between Japan and ASEAN, and an ASEAN-China Free Trade Area proposed by the People`s Republic of China and endorsed by the ten ASEAN leaders at the ASEAN ministerial meeting held in Brunei Darussalam in October 2001.
