Studio for Voice News 2021

A big congratulations to our seven graduating seniors: Karly Kato Bang, who will be attending SMC; Ethan Dale, attending Emerson College; Sofia Guzman, attending SMC; Lindzi Hutchinson, attending UC Berkeley; Kole Lee, attending Stanford University; Niko Salmaggi, attending SMC, and Ashil Srivastava, attending University of Pennsylvania this Fall!

The SMMUSD Kiwanis audition were held this June, and the following 10 students were acknowledged: High School Vocalist Finalists, Upper Division: Karly Kato Bang (Third Place), Arielle Candaele (finalist), Lindzi Hutchinson (finalist), Kole Lee (finalist), Niko Salmaggi (finalist), Natalia Solano (finalist), Ashil Srivastava (finalist), and Matthew Thorson (finalist). High School Vocalist Finalists, Lower Division: Katell Brady (Third Place). Middle School Vocalist Finalist: Roz Larsen (Third Place).

The Southern California Vocal Association Solo Finals took place this May, and both Natalia Solano (Women’s Musical Theatre Division) and Matthew Thorson (Men’s Classical Division) were selected to perform in the finals.

This March, student Matthew Thorson was selected as one of only 16 Semifinalists chosen in the Classical Voice category of the prestigious Music Center Spotlight Awards, which auditions hundreds of singers from all over Los Angeles County. 

Our Certificate of Merit Branch evaluations took place this February and March, which tested students in performance evaluations, musicianship, and music theory. The following 17 students completed their CM exams and received State Honors, Branch Honors, Convention Recital, and/ or Theory Honor Roll acknowledgement: Katell Brady, Arielle Candaele, Jonas Dannenbaum, Noah Fond, Avery Fox, Sofia Guzman, Celine Hutchinson, Lindzi Hutchinson, Roz Larsen, Kole Lee, Paige Prodonovich, Niko Salmaggi, Natalia Solano, Ashil Srivastava, Sahil Srivastava, Megan Suchet, and Matthew Thorson.

This past February the following students participated in the MTAC VOCE Competition: Senior Solo Division, Voice: Matthew Thorson – First Place, Branch Division and Honorable Mention, State Finals; Karly Kato Bang – Second Place, Branch Div.; Niko Salmaggi – Third Place, Branch Div. 

This academic year our studio participated once again in the National Association of Teachers of Singing SEP Auditions, a competition which includes all Branches of LA and Orange Counties. Our participants were Matthew Thorson, taking First Place in the 11th grade Men’s Classical Division, and Ashil Srivastava (Honorable Mention).

The following students were accepted to CCDA Honor Choirs earlier this past Fall: Katell Brady, Jonas Dannenbaum, Lindzi Hutchinson, and Megan Suchet. Middle School: Celine Hutchinson, Roz Larsen, and Sahil Srivastava.
