Lesson information

Typically one initial lesson is scheduled to assess if a student is ready to study voice. Please call (310) 614-6632 to schedule, or you can send an email to:  (Please follow-up with another call if you do not receive a reply within 24 hours).  Lessons are individual (no group lessons), and by appointment only.  The minimum age to begin voice lessons is 10 years old.

In addition to vocal technique, students are expected to study musicianship (sight-singing and rhythm), and music theory if applicable.  Technique and musicianship exercises appropriate to the level of the individual student are provided in the lessons.  Repertoire will be reviewed in lessons, after which a student will be responsible for purchasing suggested books outside of the studio.

The Studio for Voice has an annual recital, which is required for all students age 18 and below. Most of our students also participate in the statewide Certificate of Merit Program.  Advanced students, at the teacher’s discretion, are invited to participate in various programs and competitions.  A partial list of these can be found in the Competitions and Programs section of this website.
